The 2003 Direct Action's against the war in Ireland

Image

From the summer of 2002 to the spring of 2003 there were numerous direct actions against war at Shannon airport in the west of Ireland. The airport is well located as a refueling stop for US troops being transported from the NE coast of America to the warzones in Afghanistan and Iraq.

This booklet brings together two articles published in Red & Black Revolution no7 (2004) that gave a history and analysis of the actions and the debate and conflict they caused within the anti-war movement in Ireland

Marxism or Anarchism?

A talk given as part of a debate organised by the Trotskyist party "Alliance for Workers' Liberty." A basic introduction to why anarchism is better than Leninism.

The Spanish Revolution: 70 Years On

An overview of the Spanish Revolution and its lessons for anarchists and other radicals.

Dead Dogma Sketch (apologies to Monty Python)

Monty Python meets the SWP... Inspired by attending Marxism 2001.

Politics and Industrial Relations in the Media: A Guide for the Perplexed

What the media really means when it comments on industrial action....

The irresistible correctness of anarchism

A lengthy critique of the SWP's attempt to rewrite the history of the resistance to Italian fascism in the early 1920s as well as the revolutionary Red Years after World War I. An important, if not well known, bit of anarchist history.

On the Bolshevik Myth

An anarchist critique of an ISO attack on the Makhnovists. Corrects the distortions and shows how the Makhnovists show that Bolshevik authoritarian had its roots in Leninist ideology and cannot be solely explained by the civil war. Also refutes claims that the Haymarket Martyrs were Marxists as well as correcting the usual distortions about Kronstadt.

How the Revolution was Lost?

A critique of the standard Leninist account of the degeneration of the Russian Revolution, using the SWP's How the Revolution was Lost (by Chris Harman) as its basis.

Red Emma and the Reds

A reply to a Leninist (ISO) article on Emma Goldman and her politics. It corrects the distortions and selective quoting, as well as showing her support for syndicalism. It shows that rather than being an elitist individualist, her politics were about collective class struggle while defending individuality. In other words, like all communist-anarchists, her ideas were rooted in both solidarity and freedom. It shows that it is the Leninist tradition which is elitist, before concluding that Goldman's politics have important ideas for modern radicals.

Mutual Aid: An Introduction and Evaluation

An overview and analysis of Kropotkin's Mutual Aid showing how it has faired against developments in modern science as well as how it relates to anarchism.
